Among the wide range of services businesses and entrepreneurs are enjoying as the Business Gateway Project seeks to provide technical assistance to local business, is one that is totally new to St. Vincent and the Grenadines – business incubation.
Business Incubation is a facility designed to assist start-up and fledging businesses increase their survival rates. In April, 2009, the Business Gateway’s first resident incubatee moved into quarters at CED’s Offices on Lower Bay Street.
The entity, Jacobs’ Productions which specializes in the production of stationery, is owned and operated by Mrs. Haslon-Ann Jacobs of Green Hill. Mrs. Jacobs learned the art of book making while on apprenticeship at the Government Printery under the Youth Empowerment Service (YES) Programme from 2002-2003.
She explains that while at the Printery she developed a profound love for the job and was inspired to start her own business, which she says seeks to stimulate children academically through the production of educational themed materials.
“Our motto at Jacobs Production is ‘Educate Yourself Today, Benefit Tomorrow!’ Hence, my mission is to help promote education in the most meaningful way in order for children to succeed.”
Currently, her business produces exercise books, drawing books, notebooks, scraps books, autograph books, desk pads, sketch pads, and bill/receipt books. It also offers book repairs, prints and photocopies, lamination, document typing, certificates, programs, invitations, bookmarkers, labels and fliers/brochures.

While she admits that the first two months as a business incubatee has proven challenging, Mrs. Jacobs admits that without Business Gateway’s assistance her dream of operating a very successful business may not have materialized.
“CED Business Gateway has really come as a lifesaver to my business; their incubator service could not have come at a better time. With their support and guidance I am hoping to develop a very successful business.”
Under the Business Gateway Project, other start-up businesses will also benefit from Business Incubation. Residential incubatees are provided with office space and business advisory services among others.
