“We are St.Vincent and the Grenadines’ authority on clothing and you could expect the best for less!”
This is what the management and staff at The Edge - the newest clothing manufacturing company in here in SVG are focusing on as they embark on a mission to produce clothing with an international flair.
Brothers, Norris and Noel Miller, opened The Edge in Campden Park about two months ago, fulfilling a dream to establish a clothing company in their home country after working in the industry for many years for international fashion houses like Calvin Klein, Gloria Vanderbilt and London Fog. The brothers are honing their skills to produce what they say will be the best quality clothing manufactured locally.
The Miller brothers operated a similar venture from 1996-2001 at Chateaubelair but migrated back to the States. However, upon returning to the United States they decided that their plan would be best suited for St Vincent and the Grenadines. Currently, they are operating with a 10-member staff, but Norris says their aim is to increase this number within the next few months when business picks up.
“Our dream is to establish a business that would employ about 40-50 persons,” he says. “We stand for quality and have worked for many of the leading fashion companies of the world. We’re not just another establishment; we know what we’re doing, we know what we’re all about and Vincentians could expect very high quality clothing from us.”
Presently they are producing security uniforms, and, according to Norris, their lines will be expanded as several businesses have already contacted them to make their uniforms come next year. The Edge will also be manufacturing school uniforms soon.
With what looks to be a successful venture getting off to a good start, both Norris and Noel Miller are grateful that they’ve finally gotten the business up and running – an accomplishment they credit to the assistance of the Centre for Enterprise Development Inc, which was instrumental in helping them to develop a proper business plan.
“We had a plan that we brought from the States but it was not appropriate for business here in St. Vincent so we met with CED and showed them what we had and they were willing to work with us to bring a plan for St. Vincent and the Caribbean because our hope is to expand into the other CARICOM nations,” Norris explains.
He says CED was very helpful in providing them with guidelines on how to go about establishing their business and operating successfully.
“I would advise anyone to use CED because they are very professional in what they do and always willing to work with one.”
Under the guidance of the Miller’s brothers, The Edge seems poised to offer some of the best locally made clothing to Vincentians. CED wishes them success in their endeavours.
