MARKETING RESEARCH

What is it?

Marketing research is a process for testing the needs of the consumer.

Reasons For Marketing Research:

Entrepreneurs can develop or make changes to their products knowing what features consumers are looking for.
Research can help to identify what marketing strategies are necessary to be used to reach customers or make them aware of a new market they may not have previously known about.
Entrepreneurs can test new products. A new product can be tested to determine if consumers will like the product.
Old or existing products can be tested too. Doing marketing research on these products can tell an entrepreneur what consumers like and dislike about the product.
The most important reasons for marketing research are to examine the viability and feasibility of a product before investing in it and to identify opportunities in the market.
Marketing research is also an invaluable tool for determining the target market for a product or service.
The target market is a term used to describe the group of people who would be purchasers of a certain product or service.
Marketing Research is a valuable tool for determining why business is slow.

The Sample Size

When conducting market research, one wants to complete as many surveys as possible, but the degree of accuracy begins to slow once a sample size of 30 is obtained.
Normally, a given data set is said to be statistically significant if 30 sets are obtained. What this means is that whether 30 or 3,000 surveys are completed, if the market is truly tested at random, the results will be very similar.

Should Entrepreneurs Conduct The Research Themselves Or Should They Seek Professional Help?

At CED, we can help you, the entrepreneur to design a survey that will suit the particular needs of your business.
The survey can be conducted and the results analyzed so that an effective marketing plan can be designed for your business.
